Taught by Maestra Yumiko Murai, in this four-week workshop (36 class hours) you will learn to prepare the loom, get to know its parts, and weave colorful textiles and designs on century-old looms. You will apply different techniques that go into traditional weaving and learn to appreciate the aesthetic importance of Mexican folk art. You will use looms of different widths and techniques of backcombing, hand-spinning and the use of lighteners to wrap the material. You will be able to create table runners, carpets and wall art using traditional Mexican designs or your own contemporary design for your unique handmade piece.
